The Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance (FASI) at Bayes Business School celebrated its 50th birthday in 2024 – and everyone was invited to this birthday event. It featured a keynote talk by John Burn-Murdoch, chief data reporter at the Financial Times, and a panel discussion on the future of the actuarial profession.

Keynote Lecture - Fairness in an age of demographic upheaval
John's keynote discussed ‘fairness’ in a period of dramatic demographic change.
John Burn-Murdoch is a columnist and the chief data reporter for the Financial Times. John gained an MA in Interactive Journalism from City St George’s, University of London and is one of our honorary visiting lecturers. He also has an MSc in Data Science.
He writes the weekly Data Points column, where he uses statistics and graphics to dig into the most pressing issues of the day, covering everything from the economy to climate change, social issues and healthcare.

Dr Russell Gerrard, Head of Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance (FASI) chaired a panel discussion around how insurance professionals and actuaries can help humanity tackle the giant challenges of the 21st Century. From climate change and conflict to AI and an ageing population in many developed countries – what’s the industry’s role?
